Science glossary film: Depression

An area of low pressure, formed between polar and tropical latitudes, when warm and cool air meet and begin to swirl around each other. In the northern hemisphere they rotate counterclockwise, and in the southern hemisphere they rotate clockwise, due to the Earth's rotation. Winds spiral towards the center, and the warm and cold fronts in a depression both tend to bring rain.
