The stage of development an organism goes through inside the womb, following the initial development of the embryo. In humans we refer to the embryo as a fetus from around eight weeks after conception until birth. At the beginning of this fetal stage, a human fetus is about 2.5 to 3 centimeters long, and nearly half of its mass is the head.
