The process of pushing or moving an object forwards. Any propulsion system that produces an accelerating force will also produce an equal and opposite balancing force. When a jet engine produces a force on the air and exhaust gases that it pushes backwards, these then exert an equal and opposite force on the plane, pushing it forwards.
